New Zealand Diploma in Hospitality Management
The New Zealand Diploma in Hospitality Management (Level 5) programme is designed to provide you with enhanced employment opportunities within junior or trainee hospitality management, supervisor or team leader roles across the hospitality sector.
Once you have completed this qualification you may choose to take on further study in hospitality at an advanced Diploma level, or pursue employment opportunities at a junior management level within hospitality environments including kitchens, restaurants, bars, cafes, accommodation, catering and hotels.
You will cover the following four modules:
Introduction to management practices: you will be introduced to the central philosophies of facilities, resource management, operating procedures and compliance requirements. The practical time in this module is dedicated to the application of the skills and knowledge that you are taught during theory.
Building food service teams: in this module you will focus on developing and maintaining effective teamwork and the management of relationships within a hospitality team.
Staff training and food and beverage menu development: you will become proficient at developing food and beverage menus that meet cost requirements and the management of staff training processes.
Marketing and event management: the final module will provide you with key marketing and sales strategy tools for hospitality and restaurant items. You will be given the opportunity to apply your team leadership capabilities through event management.
- Be 18 years or older.
- Have an overall IELTS 5.5 with no band score lower than 5.0 (or recognised equivalent) if English is your second language.
- Have NCEA Level 2 (or higher) or a
- New Zealand Certificate in Hospitality (Level 4) from a New Zealand TEO is an advantage.
If you do not meet these requirements but are over 20 years of age, you may still be admitted if the motivation and skills needed to succeed in the programme are shown. You need to be physically able to do the practical parts of this programme.
