Diploma in Professional Cookery (Level 5)

What made you decide to study with NSIA?

I read about NSIA on their website when I was looking for a good place to study cookery. I spoke to some friends, and found that NSIA was offering the course outline that suited me.

What were the highlights of your course?

I really liked that it was a practical course and the teachers are very professional.

What did you learn that helps you in your current role?

I learnt some key techniques in the kitchen that help in my role today. The tutors were really helpful in explaining how the kitchen operates so when it was really busy we worked well as a team.

What is your current job, and where are you working?

I’m a Commis Chef at the SkyCity Casino, which is a major tourist destination in Auckland.

What are the highlights of your job?

We cook and prepare meals for up to eight lounges inside Casino. I am currently working in the VIP kitchen and serve cuisine to the VIP guests. It’s an exciting and challenging role, but I am really enjoying it.

What are your goals for the future?

My goal is to become a great chef in a large fine dining restaurant. I love to create beautiful things which require patience, technique and high level skills. I look forward to refining my current skills with my experiences at SkyCity.
