Harassment Complaints

In New Zealand harassment is unlawful under the Human Rights Act 1993. There are different categories of harassment and includes behaviours such as discrimination based on gender or ethnicity, sexual harassment, bullying, and physical threats among others.

To complain about someone who has been harassing you is a brave and positive step. We advise you to talk with one of our Student Service Officers, who will assure you of confidentiality and lend a sympathetic ear. He or she will also discuss with you about how the harassment is affecting your life and provide you with some suggestions on how to resolve the situation. For instance, this may include a role-play activity that could help you plan how you might approach the person and request that the behaviour be stopped.

If a resolution is not achieved our officers will assist you in seeking help from a suitable external agency such as the Human Rights Commission, the Citizens Advice Bureau, a Community Law Centre or for severe cases, the Police.

Disability Services

NSIA is committed to providing education that is accessible to students with disabilities. Please contact a Student Service Officer now so that we can arrange the support you need before the start of your study.
