Another Successful Graduation for NSIA:
On November 17th 2010, NSIA held their annual graduation ceremony.
A total of 350 students, family members, industry partners and NSIA Industry Advisory Board members celebrated their academic achievements. During the ceremony, a welcome speech was given by Steve McKenzie, the CEO of the Restaurants Association, on what it takes to succeed in the hospitality industry, and where a career in this industry can take you. There were also some great performances during the ceremony from the TC school of art (Tim’s class), with traditional performances from Maori, Chinese, Indian and Korean acts.
This year, 7 special awards were announced, to recognise the achievements of students that had excelled in both their studies, as well as in their chosen careers in the New Zealand hospitality industry.
The Seven Awards were categorised according to industry and courses NSIA provides. NSIA industry providers have generously donated hundreds of dollars worth of prizes to provide these lucky and deserving students with some great awards. Again, a huge thank you to our wonderful sponsors!
This year marked a very special year from NSIA, and we were pleased to be able to remember the late Otto Groen QSM, by honouring him with a trophy, to celebrate our top student, it was filled with oranges and Grand mariner liquor, as well as his recipe for crepe suzette, one of his favourite desserts. This prize was a very special to all those who knew Otto, and this year was awarded to the student who had created Otto’s favourite competition dish, that won gold Medal for the Food and Wine Match, at the National Culinary Fare in 2010.
